World Immunisation Week: 24-30 April 2020

27 April 2020

This week is World Immunisation Week, an initiative of the World Health Organization (WHO), which aims to promote the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against disease.  Every year, millions of lives are saved thanks to immunisation and it is recognised widely as one of the most successful and cost effective health interventions. However, nearly 20 million children are still unvaccinated and under-vaccinated worldwide.

With the theme #VaccinesWork for All, the campaign focuses on how vaccines as well as the people who develop, deliver and receive them are vaccine champions by working to protect the health of everyone, everywhere.

WHO has released new guidance to help countries protect critical immunization services during the COVID-19 pandemic, so that ground is not lost in the fight against vaccine-preventable diseases. Click here to view this guidance.

Visit the WHO website for featured stories, fact sheets and the role vaccines play in keeping the world safe.
