Opportunity to get involved in Yaralla House primary care

10 February 2020

The Clinical HIV/AIDS Services at Sydney Local Health District (SLHD) are seeking expressions of interest from practices or individuals (preferably close to Concord and/or the Inner West Sydney area), who may wish to take over the provision of primary medical care to the residents of Yaralla House. The house is in the grounds of the Dame Eadith Estate at Concord Hospital, with residential capacity of 12 – 16 people.

Dr Michael Purcell who has provided sterling service over many years is retiring from his practice, which had included a scheduled visit to Yaralla House on a fortnightly basis and occasional home visits. The residents are under the day to day nursing care of registered nurses who are within the Concord Hospital's administrative pathways and are all ambulant but require supervised residential care due to cognitive dysfunction associated with HIV.

General practitioners who may not be experienced in providing HIV related care are also welcomed to express an interest as medical staff will be supported and can have facilitated access to more experienced staff.

To arrange a visit to the facility or for more information, please contact A/Professor Roger Garsia (Head of HIV Clinical Services SLHD) via r.garsia@sydney.edu.au or on 0425326427.
