Request for proposal for Dementia Education and Training

Central and Eastern Sydney PHN are requesting proposals for the provision of educational training programs on dementia for carers at residential aged care facilities and those informally caring for residents with dementia across the Central and Eastern Sydney PHN region.

Central and Eastern Sydney PHN has a keen interest in dementia. This project is designed to provide residential aged care facility care staff and those informally caring for residents with dementia an opportunity to engage in a training and education program. Carers provide invaluable and significant contributions to the aged population but also to those with a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, drug and/or alcohol dependency and terminal illness. Central and Eastern Sydney PHN recognises the importance of informal carers and also the carer workforce, specifically in RACFs, and seeks to provide education and development to those caring for people with dementia.

The objective of the Dementia Education and Training Program is to:

  • Improve health literacy of dementia in carers.
  • Upskill and increase support of carers in strategies to deliver dementia management for the care recipient.
  • Increase the understanding of residential aged care facility staff about the role carers can take when working with residents with dementia.
  • Increase knowledge of local services and referral pathways for dementia.
  • Enhance the delivery of person-centred dementia strategies through team-based care, including staff and carers

The program will be implemented between January and June 2019.

Tenders close on Friday 30 November at 5.00 pm.
