headspace recruiting GPs

The five Central and Eastern Sydney PHN funded headspace centres across our region - Ashfield, Bondi Junction, Camperdown, Hurstville, and Miranda – are looking for GPs to come and work with young people at their centres. Each headspace centre is a youth friendly place where young people aged 12-25 years can access low cost or free help from a multidisciplinary team of health professionals, for a range of health and wellbeing concerns.

GPs have a key role in assessing young people including the preparation of GP mental health treatment plans that allow young people to access psychological services. In addition to mental health issues, GPs are encouraged and supported to engage young people around sexual health, drug and alcohol, physical health as well as preventative health care.

Working at a headspace centre provides GPs with an opportunity to:

  • improve the lives of young people as part of an interesting and innovative team
  • provide a full range of health services
  • be part of a supportive, multidisciplinary team
  • develop increased skills in working with young people.

Other benefits include:

  • regular peer support, education, and professional development from assessment to
    appropriate prescribing
  • modern fully computerised facilities with reception and administration support
  • part-time sessional positions available
  • flexibility with hours and days worked.

If you are interested in working with young people and would like more information about working at one of the headspace centres in our region, please contact Central and Eastern Sydney PHN Child and Youth Mental Health Program Officer Joanne Homsi on 9330 9945.
