Gary Smith Mentoring Award

Are you new to practice management and looking forward to furthering your practice management career?

Gary has been a practice manager for more than 29 years of a large multi-disciplinary practice in western Sydney. His career has been extensive in the management of health care facilities, predominately in the general practice arena. Gary is a past National and NSW State President of the Australian Association of Practice Management Ltd (AAPM). He is considered the 'guru' of practice management in Australia by his peers.

He has a passion for practice management and has the philosophy 'the knowledge he has gained is not for him to keep.'


The Award

The Award consists of six one-hour teleconference sessions on the following topics, which are based on the core principles of AAPM:

  • financial management
  • human resource management
  • planning and marketing
  • information management
  • risk management
  • governance and organisational dynamics
  • business and clinical operations
  • professional responsibility


If you would like to be this year’s worthy recipient, please submit a maxiumum of 500 words telling us about yourself, your current role and what this award would mean to you and your practice. Submissions should be addressed to and must be received by 5pm, Friday 29 July 2016.

The recipient will be announced and presented at the Practice Managers Education Day and Practice Manager of the Year Award presentation on Friday 26 August, at the Australian Maritime Museum.
