SLHD Menopause Service: Seeking GP Feedback

SLHD is proposing to establish a multidisciplinary menopause service. This service will see women undergoing menopause or premature ovarian insufficiency and will seek to be an end to end service where all the clinical needs of these patients, which cannot be offered in a primary care setting, are met. Clinical services proposed include:

  • Reproductive endocrinology and gynaecology
  • General endocrinology and bone health monitoring
  • Fertility consultation and preservation for those undergoing premature ovarian insufficiency
  • Cardiology and metabolic health
  • Musculoskeletal health
  • Psychiatry
  • Psychology and CBT
  • Dietetics
  • Counselling and social work
  • Physiotherapy and OT

This clinical service will also provide a tertiary referral service for regional and rural centres and will not have any restrictions on where referrals come from and thus will not be bound to SLHD. There is also capacity to do some outreach work in the community setting especially for marginalised and ‘at risk’ populations including ATSI and refugees / migrants who have difficulty accessing healthcare in a traditional model.

In addition, in collaboration with the University of Sydney and the Charles Perkin’s Centre, there will be a research component to this centre for new interventions and lifestyle studies.

Finally, this service will have, as part of its key remit, an educational and health promotion stream. This stream will seek to provide seminars, educational sessions and support for both general practitioners and patients. This includes a proposed ‘on call’ CNC during work hours for enquiries from primary care practitioners.

SLHD is seeking expression from our primary care colleagues as to whether they would utilize such a service and if this service were to be established, what they would like to see included. All feedback can be sent to the contact below and would be greatly appreciated in helping us set up the best service possible.
