New hepatitis B campaign

4 November 2019

NSW Health will soon launch a campaign encouraging people of Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Arabic and sub-Saharan African heritage to “talk to their doctor” about getting tested for hepatitis B. A quarter of a million people in Australia have chronic hepatitis B infection, however only around two-thirds are diagnosed, and only one-fifth are engaged in care. Diagnosis, monitoring and appropriate referral to specialist care are essential to prevent the complications of liver cancer and liver failure.

HealthPathways has guidance on:

  • Who to test
  • What tests to order
  • Management of chronic hepatitis B
  • Local referral pathways

ASHM offers online and face to face training modules for primary care which can be accessed here.
