The latest innovations in mental health: upcoming forum on 7 November 2019

22 October 2019

Central and Eastern Sydney PHN is hosting its annual Rethinking Mental Health Forum on 7 November 2019 at the Pullman Hotel in Mascot, exploring the theme ‘A whole of health approach’.

The forum provides a platform for health and community service providers, people with a lived experience of mental illness and carers to discuss the latest innovations in mental health and wellbeing.

This year, the forum will explore innovation, practice, research and lived experience around approaches to mental health and wellbeing that incorporate ‘a whole of person’ approach.

Central and Eastern Sydney PHN CEO Dr Michael Moore says, “We always look forward to hosting our annual Rethinking Mental Health Forum. Mental health cannot be separated from social and physical health. From my years of working as a GP, we know that working on all areas of a person’s wellbeing achieves the greatest outcomes. The forum is the perfect opportunity for service providers and community members to come together to explore mental health and to look to the future. We have more speakers than ever this year, an exciting and diverse theme, and a jam-packed program, full of interest for our attendees”.

Chair of Just Reinvest NSW Sarah Hopkins will give the keynote speech, followed by a plenary with Exercise Physiologist Dr Oscar Leiberman. After that, there will be eight snapshot rounds. Each round will have two sessions running concurrently, with three speakers in each. The focus areas for the snapshot rounds include:

  • Social connection and shared care
  • Youth space
  • Moving towards better mental health
  • Collaborative approaches
  • Creating safe spaces
  • Whole of health
  • Innovative approaches
  • Body and mind

These rounds will be followed by two interactive workshops and a subsequent panel discussion with an Aboriginal Workers Circle. Our full program can be viewed here.
