Changes to accessing the Australian Immunisation Register

5 August 2019

You may have heard about the recent changes to accessing the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR). Updates have been made for accessing and using the AIR as a medical practice, medical practitioner, midwife, nurse practitioner or other vaccination provider.

You can use the AIR site through HPOS to record immunisation details. You can also view and print immunisation history statements, request reports, and update your contact details.

Using the AIR as a medical practice

Medical practices must apply to become a recognised vaccination provider on the AIR to access the AIR site. This will provide you with a ‘practice provider number’ which can be used by nurses and other staff as necessary to look up previous vaccination history and notify AIR of vaccinations given elsewhere.

We have created an information sheet to help guide you through these steps.

Once you register, you can access the AIR site using a practice authentication file. If you haven’t registered your practice on the AIR, you should do it now. This will ensure your staff can continue to access the AIR site. You must register for a practice provider number by 30 August 2019.

Using the AIR as a medical practitioner, midwife or nurse practitioner

If you have a Medicare provider number, you’re automatically a recognised vaccination provider on the AIR. Individual authentication files will be switched off. You’ll need to register for a PRODA account by 30 August 2019 to continue to access the AIR site.

If you already have a PRODA account, you don’t need to create another one. You can use PRODA to access the AIR site now.

If you need to create your PRODA account, we have created an information sheet to help guide you through these steps.
