Quality improvement in general practice

My Health Record and guality improvement in the practice

Is your practice ready for My Health Record? As the 31 January opt-out deadline draws nearer, practices have been working to integrate the system into their workflow. In addition to the clear benefits it provides for patients and healthcare professionals, My Health Record provides an excellent opportunity to implement practice-driven quality improvement initiatives, including:

  • Systematically addressing record completeness and nomenclature standardisation
  • Fostering a person-centred approach to healthcare delivery
  • Working with all staff in the practice to sustain continuity of care

Practices can contribute to the system and drive these initiatives by asking patients who do not have a My Health Record if they would like one and by regularly uploading shared health summaries and event summaries. Accredited practices can also benefit from My Health Record when preparing for the new PIP Quality Improvement incentive, which will commence from 1 May 2019.

The PHN’s My Health Record Expansion team is preparing practices and providing training on the use of the system. If you would like to know more about My Health Record, please contact the team via myhealthrecord@cesphn.com.au.
