Digital health record encouraging healthy progress

22-30 September is Veteran’s Health Week and the theme this year is Nutrition. All veterans in Australia are urged to consider learning about the benefits of having a My Health Record, which could help them keep track of their health.

One key benefit of My Health Record is that it keeps an individual’s key health information in one place. Their authorised healthcare providers can upload all their relevant documents including pathology reports, diagnostic imaging and medicine prescriptions on the system.

This can be beneficial since it helps the individual keep track of their health and could help them avoid repeating their medical story every single time. If individuals choose to self-identify their status as Veteran and Australian Defence Force (ADF), this will be visible to their healthcare providers on their My Health Record.

By the end of 2018, all Australians with a Medicare or Department of Veteran Affairs will have access to a My Health Record at the end of the year, unless they choose not to have one. If you prefer to opt out, visit myhealthrecord.gov.au or contact the free help line on 1800 723 471 by November 15.
