Meeting Centre Support Program (MCSP)

3Bridges Community secured funding to conduct the first Australian trial of the Meeting Centre Support Program. The Meeting Centre Support Program, originated in the Netherlands, promotes the dignity and quality of life of older people with dementia and delays an early admission to a nursing home.

The meeting centres provide evidenced-based, post diagnostic psychosocial interventions tailored to the individual needs of participants, in a friendly environment by a small professional team. Support is provided over three days and members can choose how often they participate.

How is the MCSP different from what is already available?

  • Support focuses on both: the person with dementia and the carer
  • Accessible, integrated, person-centred dementia care support is offered at one location
  • Support is offered by one small professional team on a regular basis which strengthens the relationship and trust between participants and the staff
  • Model of support includes case management, referrals and individual counselling
  • Centre participants and carers have a say in the design and delivery of the centres activities
  • Care strategies are based on principles of: Reactivation; Resocialisation and Improvement of affective functioning
