9 May 2018

Please note that Fluarix Tetra® vaccine is safe for use in people with a latex allergy. The manufacturer of the Fluarix Tetra® vaccine has provided an update to authorities that in Australia, the pre-filled syringe is supplied with a separate needle that is not made with natural rubber latex.

In other countries, the vaccine is supplied in a pre-filled syringe attached to a needle, which cannot be used in persons with a latex allergy. As Fluarix Tetra® supplied in Australia does not contain a needle-sheath containing latex, it is safe for use in people with a latex allergy.

NSW health have updated their website to include Fluarix Tetra® in the list of influenza vaccines that do not contain latex.

TGA Safety advisory alert on Fluad - risk to patients with latex allergy.
